INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
A celebration. An inspiration. An encouragement. And reminder there’s more to be done.
GANT is a company where women’s skills and leadership are recognized, valued and rewarded. We have created an organization in which everyone’s career is nurtured and can flourish, regardless of gender.
At the same time, we know many women must still fight to overcome obstacles placed in their path. As we mark International Women’s Day, we look forward to a time when it isn’t needed – and nothing stands in the way of talent.
“International Women’s Day is a way to share stories that can help young women to feel empowered,” says Eleonore Säll, Global Marketing Director. “We all need role models, we all need some inspiration, and all too often we hear success being presented in masculine terms. I take great pride in not fitting in to one box and it’s always good to hear someone else’s story and think, ‘If she can do it, I can too!'”
For Alina Brane, Concept Design Lead, it’s a reminder that the values and different perspectives that the women bring to the workplace are an asset to an organization. A drive for greater equality is not just something to aspire to in the name of equality – but something that powers success. “A softer, more personal, feminine leadership is crucial for the health of any organization in the future,” she says.
Having experienced being the only woman in the room early in her career, Karen Vogele, Concept to Consumer Director, understands why International Women’s Day is still needed. “I’ve been the only woman sitting at a table of 40 men at management meetings. I had a voice, but it was not always as loud as my male counterparts, and so I had to make sure I was heard. That was almost 15 years ago, and things have changed a lot but there’s still a lot to be done.”
At GANT, we take pride in being part of that change. “The world has a long way to go, but we’re on a journey together and making our way towards a better society,” says Charlotte Vassilaros, Global HR Director. “At GANT we focus on people’s strengths to make them better leaders. We encourage and promote people, and lift them up to be leaders who reflect the values of our company. Success springs from a person’s skills, personality, and their respect for others. It’s what we’ve always done, and we are proud to have built a company where women already fill many leadership roles.”
